The documentation template filled out for each interface will significantly improve your system documentation. Latest during troubleshooting the first problem you will either quickly find a hint - or realize that "in that empty box there should be the answer".
If you don't have time now to document your at least 100 interfaces - do it latest then for that interface where you are just solving a problem.
There is one problem Mercury's template can't solve: The interface might be the connection between two systems developed and operated by two different teams - who will fill it out ? Having two documents - "From System A to handover-point" and a second "From handover-point into System B" is not the optimum.
But our real world experience shows that both teams doing that together in one meeting not only gets that done, but additionally significantly improves the understanding of the data exchange in both teams!
